Scourge never expected to see Zonic so bouncy. It was like an entirely new person. His ears twitched in confusion. What was with the sudden change?
"Yer actin’…way different than the last time we met. Are ya sick er somethin’?" Ah, but the offer to help struck him speechless quickly. Eyes lowered and fingers clenched together and released a few times to loosen the tension he felt.
"Well…I dunno if ya could help me. I just…I guess I’m just lackin’ in somethin’ important is all.” He murmured. It was hard talking about this. The doubts he felt. Ray’s words echoed in his mind.
You don’t love anybody. You are fake.
He was certain those words would never leave him. They would haunt him, hound him. In his own heart, he’d believed he truly loved Shadow and his brother. Scarlet and his friends. But was it all a lie?
Was he lying even to himself?
Was the warmth he felt in his chest when he neared them, the urge to protect them that would overwhelm him at times, the want to see them all smiling and happy; was all of that just a lie too? Something his mind had constructed? Something fake?
"I don’t know what to believe anymore…" Quiet words. But true ones. What could he believe? Who could he trust?
When he couldn’t even trust himself right now.
"Pardon me. I suppose I am acting a little different. Something really nice happened to me since the last time we met, so that’s why…"
But Scourge looked pained. It was almost like a roll reversal now. Zonic’s look suddenly blanked then turned serious.
"Lacking? If you don’t mind me asking, what do you mean?" He could understand what it was like to feel lost. And he honestly wanted to help.
